By the way, keep reading N.T. Wright. He basically would agree with everything you say, but is someone with a deep devotion to Christ. He is a bit of an academic role-model for me because he is more than willing to ask the tough questions without being crushed by the complexity and challenges those questions may bring.

I appreciate the journey you're on, Luke. However, let me push back a bit. I find it a bit disturbing that you could come to any conclusion like this after a few weeks of studying...no matter how much you've studied. My main push-back is in this statement from your conclusion:

"But all this (along with innumerable errors throughout the whole Bible) seems to indicate that the Bible is not the direct word of omniscient God, but of course the work of biased, fallible humans."

Here's my question: Does historical incongruity really negate the possibility that the Bible cannot be the direct word of an omniscient God? You are creating a bit of an either/or here...that EITHER the Bible is the work of biased humans OR it is the Word of God. I believe it is both. I used to be bothered by the theological bias of each of the Gospel writers. But no one was remotely interested in historicity (at least as we understood it) back then. The readers of these works understood that each of the Gospels had a theological bias...but that isn't to say that those biases are in conflict with God's intent.

You've engaged in a comprehensive study. And questions will always abound. It is fine to wrestle with them.

I am not an intellectual wrestler like you, but my heart longs to really "know" Jesus. I believe we both can find rest by letting the Holy Spirit be our guide. He uses the canonical Scripture we commonly read to reveal the nature of Jesus. We can rely on Him.
