Life on the Vine: Cultivating the Fruit of the Spirit in Christian Community is a fantastic look at culture, Christianity, and fruits of the Spirit. Kenneson devotes a chapter to each fruit of the Spirit listed by Paul, investigating their properties and methods for cultivating such fruit in the body of Christ. I’m sure it would be redundant for Christian academics, but for me it was a refreshing overview of Christlike fruit, and will make a great quick-reference on my bookshelf.

By no means is the book redundant for Christian academics. The profundity of this book is that it does connect with some of the lofty ideas of academics, but tries to drive it deep into regular human experience (which is often neglected territory for academics). I’m convinced that this book is one of the most underrated books I’ve ever read. While it isn’t a GREAT book, it is certainly a GOOD one, though few have ever heard of it.

Maybe it’s people don’t realize its worth because it has such a bad cover.

Indeed. I’m for minimalistic covers…but if you’re going to have a design, then why the heck go with a lame font and a picture of foliage? The title isn’t that great either. The book SOUNDS like a devotional, but it is actually a book for the Christian counter-culture. I wish Kenneson would rework it and try to get it republished.
